School Screening That Saves Lives
How MARS and the Rural Behavioral Health Institute are transforming youth suicide prevention through the Screening Linked to Care (SLTC) program.
A Partnership Built on Purpose
Meret will only screen with organizations that provide evidence-based follow-up care.
Our partner organization, the Rural Behavioral Health Institute (RBHI), is focused on reducing youth suicide in rural areas.
RBHI carries out universal screening in elementary, middle, and high schools using a proprietary
“Screening Linked to Care” (SLTC) approach.
SLTC ensures that all students who screen at high risk of suicide receive a same-day follow-up with a clinician.

The Screening Linked to Care (SLTC) Model

RBHI’s proprietary SLTC approach ensures that every student who screens at high risk of suicide receives a same-day clinical follow-up
  • 100 %

    of high-risk students received same-day follow-up
  • 73 %

reduction in new incidents of high-risk suicidal ideation or
    behaviors.
Expanding Access to Care Across the U.S.
RBHI’s initial effort focused on Montana, where the child and adolescent suicide rate is 4.5 times the national average.
Recently, RBHI has expanded to three other states: Georgia, Illinois, and Oregon

Real Impact and Key Stats
  • 70,000+
young people screened since 2023 using the MARS platform
  • 200+ schools
    use SLTC and are
connected to the MARS screening platform
  • At least 1 student
in each school screening who was not known to be at risk by staff or parents was identified
  • 100%
of students screened at high risk of suicide received a same-day follow-up
Powering Screening That Drives Care
The clear signal of risk generated by the MARS screener allows RBHI and school staff to triage students efficiently, ensuring those who need additional evaluation and treatment receive it.
MARS helps ensure scarce clinical resources go to those who most need them — quickly, accurately, and compassionately.
